Our Plan

Our mission is to build more housing in Oak Park. It's really as simple as that. We aren't going to build it ourselves though, so we have a plan for bringing this about.

Educate

Foundational to our mission is to educate the public about how Oak Park got to a place where it can't effectively build new housing. This is a complex history, with many twists and turns, much of it is forgotten.

We'll also share housing news from other localities and organization. There's a lot to learn for other's successes, and failures.

Engage

Yes Oak Park will create an engaged membership organization that can serve as ambassadors for our mission. When the usual suspects show up at a public meeting for a new building to shoot it down, we need a counterbalancing voice that advocates for new housing and increased density, sending the message that the public supports density.

We genuinely believe that most Oak Parker's do support density. It's only a very vocal minority that shows up in opposition.

Advocate

We will lobby at the local level for legislative modifications to zoning code that allow increased density. The Village of Oak Park has extraordinary control over what gets built and where. We've got all the levers right here in our hands to make the changes that will unleash more abundant housing.
