1033 South: Additional Fun Facts
- John Schiess, the architect behind the project, also designed the renovated Opera Club Condos, which house most of the people objecting to the development.
- For that matter, the developers behind the new development were also responsible for the renovations that took the Boulevard Arcade building from (Trustee Taglia's words) "a dump" to an architectural landmark so valuable its parking lot deserves COA consideration.
- HPC commissioners repeatedly condemned the developers for appearing not once but four times before the HPC, without acknowledging that the developers were forced by our ordinance to do that. We should fix that ordinance!
- The proposed development isn't visible from the street: because of how South Blvd is laid out (sandwiched between buildings on one side and the raised train tracks on the other), you can't see over the Boulevard Arcade facade.
- Commissioners in Oak Park are appointed to 4-year terms, from which they apparently can’t be removed, which is worth remembering when considering that nobody voted for any of us.
